Happy Monday all! Please give a warm welcome to Sean Thorndike, the Director of Business Development in our growing Chicago Office! Read below to learn more about Sean’s background.

How did you first become interested in this industry?

I first became involved when I was in high school and was part of the social committee which planned all our school dances. Then in college, I worked for a Marriott hotel on the front desk and was asked to pitch in for a few events they were having. After that, I knew the events industry was a really good match for me.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Meeting new people, finding commonalities and figuring out new, creative and innovative ways to help them while creating a mutually rewarding, long term relationship.

What is the best part about the destination you work in?

Chicago has a little bit of everything . . . cityscape, parks, the lake, nightlife, theatre, cinema, festivals, cultural attractions including some of the best and largest museums in the nation, a fantastic hotel landscape, and a food scene that ranges from upscale Michelin stars restaurants to casual dining eateries to neighborhood gems that you can’t find anywhere else. And on top of all of that, you’ll find so many genuinely nice people who are happy to help you discover all the amazing things they love about their city. Chicagoans are very proud and happy to share their opinions on how you can have a memorable time in the Windy City.

What is one of your most proud accomplishments at CSI (or other company) so far?

The life-changing move to Chicago 2 years ago. I resigned from my job, sold my condo and came to Chicago so I could live in this city I love and be closer to family and friends in the Midwest. It was tough starting from scratch and networking in a place where I knew no one, but eventually, I met great people who introduced me around. After only a few months I found a job. I’m proud of myself for taking the risk and very grateful to all of those who helped me navigate the local event industry scene. I was happy and relieved to find such welcoming and helpful event professionals.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself happily living in Chicago as close to the lake as possible.

Where are you from?

I was born in New Jersey, moved to Dayton, Ohio at 10 years old and after college at Ohio University lived in Atlanta, Georgia until moving to Chicago in 2017.

How do you like to spend your weekends?

I enjoy going to the gym with my partner and either hanging out with friends, seeing a movie, going to a neighborhood festival, walking along the lake, spending time with his sister’s family or sometimes we just relax at home.

Are there any causes you are passionate about? Any ways you give back to the community?

Homelessness, animals and civil rights for all. Mostly giving back through giving food to the homeless on the streets, donating to animal causes, and participating with event industry associations community service activities. I am also looking to foster dogs this year and find other ways to give back.

Did you guess Morgan’s favorite college sports team? Was it the same as yours? Morgan proudly supports the UCF Knights!

What about Sean? Can anyone guess what animal he loves being around? It is dogs? What about bunnies? Or how about piglets!? Like always, comment on our Instagram @csidmc with your guess and we will reveal his answer during the next CSI Insider posting.
