GET TO KNOW OUR TALENTED TEAM BEHIND EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCES! DEBI KINNEY, GENERAL MANAGER AND DIRECTOR OF SALES IN CSI LAS VEGAS, IS PICTURED HERE READY TO PUT UP A FIGHT!
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EVENT TO DATE?
I worked with a company to take their team of several hundred individuals to the top of the Stratosphere, where we bought out the top two floors. We included hors d’oeuvres and food stations, multiple bars, vignette performers, roaming entertainment around the circular venue, and were granted private use of all of the rides at the top of the hotel towers’ 107 floors. Bonus: the guests enjoyed the best 360 degree views of the entire Las Vegas valley! Following their time at the top, we escorted the group down to MJ Live! and the group was entertained with a private show, complete with customizations for the company and followed by a dance party in the theater with the entertainers. It was the most memorable because my team had to create a winning concept to earn the business in a bid against multiple competitors, and once we won, seeing the concept come to life in conjunction with our partners at The Stratosphere, and witnessing all of the collaboration to make the vision a reality, was absolutely satisfying.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
My favorite part of my job is building relationships and finding solutions – both internally with the team, and externally with clients and partners. I also really enjoy continuing to learn – through reading, through experience, and through knowledge others share with me. Our city, our industry, our tools and our resources are continually changing and evolving and I love being part of such a dynamic industry!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN THE SPECIAL EVENTS INDUSTRY?
Be a sponge – find mentors in each sector to help you learn all aspects of the business. You will learn what you like – and what you don’t. You will become well rounded and learn various tricks of the trade that will contribute to your future success.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EVENT VENUE?
In a city full of amazing venues I cannot commit to just one! In general, though, I really love working with hidden gems and also spaces that we can completely transform our vision into.
WHAT IS THE BEST EVENT ENTERTAINMENT YOU’VE EVER SEEN?
LA All Stars remains one of my very favorite party bands – high energy, fun performers who know how to get the house on their feet and dancing! I also really love vignettes – creating moods through performance with all of the talented artists with whom we have the pleasure of working.
IF YOU DIDN’T WORK IN THE SPECIAL EVENTS INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I would be a fitness coach or a personal trainer. It embodies the mind, body, and spirit balance that I strive for in my everyday life while providing an entrepreneurial outlet and the ability to build your own business, which really speaks to me. It also helps others to become the best version of themselves, which is something I truly enjoy.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
I was born in San Lorenzo, CA (East Bay, San Francisco), and I grew up in Danville, CA (also East Bay).
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM VACATION/FAVORITE DESTINATION?
Anywhere with a beach, with my son, my husband, and our friends – enjoying life and the beauty of this world. Turks and Caicos is on my bucket list, as is a return trip to the Greek island of Santorini!
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I spend time with my son and husband; family is very important to me. I do a lot of entertaining at my home and go out with girlfriends. I love to hike – in fact, I feel very blessed to hike in Las Vegas, which is a side of this city that few get to see or experience. I also love getting in the boxing ring with my coach!

Thanks for playing along with Cara Pratt last time! Did you guess her lie? She used to work at a restaurant with Whoopie Goldberg – WOW, and she used to play ladies ice hockey in high school. What was Cara telling tales about? She never did a semester at sea but always wishes she had! Instead, she studied in Belgium and traveled around Europe leaning about Global Marketing. Very impressive.
